UPCOMING EVENTS

In Memory of Walk-A-Thon 2008

September 20th Chastain Park in Atlanta

Registration 8:30am Walk 10:00am

The purpose of our Walk-A-Thon is to bring about awareness to the number one cause of teen deaths - CAR CRASHES.  We loose over 6000 teens a year in this country to teen driving related car crashes.  We strive to impress upon teens and their parents the serious nature of teen driving and the consequences of making wrong choices and bad decisions.  Another purpose behind the Walk is to help parents keep the memory of their teen alive.  Their will be a Memory Lane where we will have pictures of fallen teens along the course.  Families and friends are encouraged to lay flowers at the picture of the teen they are walking in memory of.

Teen Victim Impact Panel

Our TVIP is held the third Monday of each month at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Building located at 75 Langley Dr. in Lawrenceville GA. at 7:00pm. Best to be there by 6:30pm. (Note: The program in June has been changed to the 19th 2008 Thursday).  This is a program where area judge's sentence teens convicted of various traffic offences to attend our program. After our presentation we have either a parent who has lost a teen, a teen that nearly died in a car crash or a teen who due to his driving killed another teen speak about their experience. The program is one you will not forget.

The public is welcome and at this time there is no fee to attend. Donations are accepted and are tax deductible. We have a number of parents who bring their teens to the program. The program is scheduled for the third Monday of each month through December 2008. (Except for June of 2008 it will be on Thursday the 19th.)

THE 2007 WALK-A-THON WAS A GREAT SUCCESS!

The weather could not have been more beautiful and to attendees thought the location was great, very scenic for the event.  We had about fifty teens featured along the path and to see the flowers and candles left at the picture of the teen was very moving.  We hope to have an even bigger and better event next year.  Thanks to all the sponsors of the event.  If it wasn't for them, being able to have and share these memories would not have been possible.  Thanks again.  IWHTM

IN MEMORY OF WALK-A-THON
October 27, 2007

Purpose of the Walk-A-Thon:

Yes we are raising monies to help support the organization and to expand our effort to educate not only teens but parents of teens also.  But our primary purpose is to bring about an everyday awareness to our cause and the serious nature of teen driving.  We lose on the average each day in this country a class room of teens in car crashes. The NUMBER ONE CAUSE OF TEEN DEATHS.  More often than not most people think that most teens die in car crashes because of drinking and driving, WRONG.  That accounts for less than 25%.  The other 75 plus% is due to inexperience, not paying attention and distraction.  What does this mean?  It can happen to anyone!
The second most important reason for the Walk-A-Thon is to keep alive the memory of these teens that have died.  Not to memorialize them but keep their memory alive and what happened to them as a constant reminder that what happen to them could happen to any of us.  We have met face to face with the parents of most of the teens that have been featured in our books.  This is a very difficult task.  It doesn't make any difference whether it happened ten years ago or six months ago, it's tough.  One of the most common statements we hear from parents who allow us to feature their child is "we don't want our child forgotten".  And next to that "If  sharing our loss and what has happened to our family will prevent another teen from making the same mistakes that perhaps lives will be saved and other families will not have to go through what they have had to experience.  And by doing so their lose was not in vane"
So for this purpose we hope that you, your family and friends will come out and help support IWHTM and keep the memory of these teens alive.
